Google Fights for Net Neutrality

Google has recently launched a new programme to help with net neutrality.  The company wants to ensure that the ISP’s or internet service providers are given the proper management for the data bits it holds.  Google recently became concerned that the ISP’s are not being created properly.  Google has found that some of the ISP’s are creating a tiered system.  In other words a system that gives precedent to those who pay for the top spots.  These customers get the sites that load and stream quicker.  They then offer the lower paying customers sites that have slower moving ability, which do not help the search engine rankings.

These slower sites are harder to crawl for search engines, so that means Google tends to offer the worse rankings.  This is part of the reason Google wants to fix the problem.  It is not just about how the crawlers can get through a site, but quality.  In order to be fair they need to be able to stop the ISP’s from offering less to someone else.  There is fear in the ISP world due to the changes Google wants to make.

Verizon, ATT, Time Warner, Comcast and Cox all keep the fast lanes for them and their business partners and give less to their competitors.  So it would mean a huge change for how they do things. Now what ISP’s have to do with SEO is also important.

We mentioned that Google sends out crawlers to examine a site.  It is this process that can really hinder where you get ranked right now.  Google was searching the other sites to have a fair chance at the faster speeds.  If they have a better system for the websites then SEO would not have to consider speed in regards to the spyders.

Google is not only trying to clean up the ISP addresses being offered to help consumers, but they are also trying to stop the lies.  Many ISP companies are saying they don’t hinder a buyer in regards to speed.  Google wants to make sure that no consumer will be “sandbagged” when it comes to the ISP address.  If this change does come about, it will mean changes for the world of SEO again.  This is a good thing when one considers how the ISP is hindering some websites on the internet right now.  It could also change how sites are being blocked.
